Your 2026 Kia Sportage uses a Smart Key with 5 buttons, a CR2450 battery powering the remote, and a high-security laser blade. There's also a transponder chip that communicates with the immobilizer every time you start the car.
A home health aide in Ramona had a Sportage with a cracked flip key shell. The blade was getting loose in the housing and the rubber buttons were worn through. The dealer told her the only option was a brand new key at $447. They didn't mention the chip and electronics inside were perfectly fine.

I swapped the electronics from the cracked shell into a new one, verified the buttons and range, and cut a fresh laser blade. The aftermarket shells I use are the same material and button layout as factory.
She paid about $253 for the full job. Dealer wanted $447 to replace a key when the expensive parts inside were working fine.
