I got a call from a guy in Dictionary Hill, Spring Valley, on a steep one-lane residential street. No shoulder, no turnout, no way for a tow truck to get up there without blocking the whole road. His 2006 Sportage was sitting right where he parked it, and his only fob had stopped unlocking the car. When he finally got in manually, the key turned but the engine cranked and stalled. The immobilizer side needed fresh key data programmed. I decoded the blade on site and cut a replacement key to match the lock. Then I used my programmer to register the new key to the vehicle. While I was there I also rebuilt the fob with a fresh CR2032 and confirmed the remote was talking to the car properly, all three buttons working.

He never called a tow. The car started on the hill, and he drove it down himself.

The dealer comparison barely came up. He just wanted his car back. That part took care of itself.
