2004 Kia Sportage
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2004 Kia Sportage Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy in Alpine Village, parked in the VA clinic lot. He was a disabled veteran, used a wheelchair, and his only key for his 2004 Kia Sportage had broken off in his hand. Not bent, not worn down. Snapped clean at the bow.

His aide wasn't with him that day. Getting across town to a dealer was not a realistic option, not without planning it out like a logistics operation. He needed someone to come to him.

I drove out that morning. The 2004 Sportage uses a standard mechanical key, so the job was exactly what it sounds like: decode the lock cylinder, cut a replacement blade to the vehicle, verify it turns cleanly in both the door and the ignition. No software, no waiting on a part to ship, no scheduling window.

He watched the whole thing from his chair, right there in the lot. When I handed him the new key and he turned the ignition himself, he just nodded once and said something like "that's it."

That was it. Done on site. The dealer would have required him to get there, wait in a service lane, and pay for a labor block that had nothing to do with the actual work. He paid a fraction of that and never left the property.
