I got a call from a woman over in Richland on a Saturday afternoon. She was parked outside a thrift store and the fob had stopped responding. No lock, no unlock, nothing. She said she'd been noticing the range getting shorter for a few weeks but figured it would sort itself out.

I set up on the hood. Popped the fob, removed the wrong battery, straightened the contact with a small pick, cleaned both terminals, seated a proper CR2025, and closed it back up correctly.
Then I walked every function before I said a word. Lock, unlock, all four buttons, and the door handles. The fob came back clean. No programming needed, no new key, nothing dramatic.
She asked what the dealer would have done. Probably told her the fob needed to be replaced, ordered one, and had her waiting days. The fix here was a correct battery and two minutes of careful work. That's the difference between diagnosing the real problem and just selling parts.
