2023 Mazda CX-9 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman in South Poway reached out on a Tuesday afternoon. She had a 2023 Mazda CX-9 and wanted a spare key made before a family road trip later that week. Her words were basically: "I just want a real key, not a cheap one that stops working in a month." Fair.
She had done her homework. She knew the dealer wanted a significant amount and a few days' wait for the key to be ordered. She wanted to know if what I carried would actually work the same way.
I told her what I tell everyone: the quality is in the sourcing, not the logo. I carry aftermarket blanks I have tested across a lot of Mazda jobs. The fob shell, the button feel, the battery fitment, all vetted before anything goes in my van.
I pulled up to her place, decoded the blade from the door lock, cut the key, and paired the new fob to the vehicle through the OBD port. Walked every function: lock, unlock, the liftgate button, and the backup start mode with the fob against the start button. Everything behaved.
She asked me twice if it was "really the same." By the time I was running through the liftgate cycle, she had stopped asking.
She saved a good chunk compared to the dealer route, and she had the key in her hand that afternoon instead of waiting for a parts order.
