2011 Nissan Leaf Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked outside a prenatal clinic off Palomar Airport Road, near the Bressi Ranch side of Carlsbad, when the owner of a 2011 Leaf walked out and just stood there for a second looking at my van before she came over.
She told me she'd already looked up my license number before calling. A previous locksmith she'd used had handed her a receipt with no company name, no license number, and a phone number that went nowhere the next day. She was not going through that again.
I showed her my California LCO license right there, same number she'd already checked. We talked for a minute about what she actually needed. She had one working fob and wanted a spare before her due date, because the last thing you want is a key situation on the way to the hospital.
The Leaf's Intelligent Key system needs proper diagnostic equipment to register a new fob. It's not a key-in-the-ignition-turn-it-twice setup. I pulled up to the charge port, plugged into the OBD port, ran the registration sequence, and had her new fob verified against the immobilizer and all three buttons tested before she finished her water.
The charge port button on the new fob opened the flap clean. That's the one that tells you the fob is actually Leaf-spec and not just a lookalike blank.
She got a real receipt with a license number, a working phone number, and a company name on the van she could see. The dealer had quoted her a number I won't repeat here, but she told me she saved a good chunk.
