Q: How much harder is all-keys-lost compared to just adding a spare?

Significantly more involved. When you have at least one working fob, adding a spare is a registration job. The system already has a trusted key, so enrolling a second one is relatively quick. If the battery is fresh and seated correctly, try this: the Leaf has a fallback. You can hold the fob directly against the start button - physically touch it to the button face - and press.

Q: I have two fobs for my 2014 Leaf but only one works. Can the dead fob be repaired, or do I need a full replacement?

Depends on why it stopped working. If it is the battery, that is a two-minute fix with a CR2032. If the fob was dropped in water or cracked, sometimes the internal contacts just need cleaning and reseating - Leaf owners have reported reviving fobs that got wet by drying them out and cleaning the board carefully.
