2024 Nissan Leaf Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a driver out near Bonsall, just off the road on a quiet stretch outside Fallbrook. His 2024 Nissan Leaf key had snapped inside the ignition barrel.
Blade broke clean in half. He'd already called another locksmith, who told him the cylinder would need to be drilled out and replaced, along with new keys and programming on top of that. He wasn't happy with that answer, so he called me for a second opinion.
I told him to sit tight.
When I got there, I looked at the ignition closely before touching anything. The break was clean. No fragment had twisted sideways into the wafers. I used an extraction tool to work the broken piece out without touching the wafer surfaces, taking my time so I didn't disturb anything inside the barrel. Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position and got the exact cut depths I needed.
The 2024 Leaf uses a smart key system, so after cutting the new blade I paired the replacement fob to the vehicle through the OBD port using my diagnostic equipment. Tested every button, tested the start, walked the doors. Everything came back normal.
His original ignition cylinder was untouched. The lock worked exactly the way it did before the blade snapped. No drilling, no cylinder swap, no unnecessary teardown.
The other locksmith's plan would have cost him significantly more and left him with a drilled-out ignition on a car he still has payments on. Getting a second opinion was the right call.
