2019 Nissan Leaf Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Downtown IB on a Saturday afternoon. A guy who fishes the bay regularly called me from the boat launch parking area.
He had his gear, his truck -- wait, no. He had his 2019 Leaf sitting in the lot, and somewhere between the dock and the car his only fob had gone into the water, into a bag, into nowhere. Half an hour of retracing steps and asking around at the nearby bait shop turned up nothing. He figured the car was stuck there until he could get a dealer appointment, probably Monday at the earliest.
I told him I could be there that afternoon.
Getting into the car without any working key is step one. I decoded the door lock mechanically, reading the wafer positions so I could cut a blade that matched the lock exactly -- no original needed, no guessing. Once I was in, I connected through the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure. That process clears any previously registered fobs from the system's memory and enrolls the new one as the primary key. There is a timed sequence involved, so you sit with it and wait it out. Not a fast step, but it is the right one.
The new fob came up, I tested every function, and his Leaf started right there in the launch lot. I made him a second one on the spot so he would not be in this position again.
The dealer would have meant a tow, a Monday appointment, and a bill that made him wince when I mentioned what they quoted over the phone. He paid a fraction of that, did not miss the rest of his Saturday, and left with two working keys instead of one.
