De Luz is a long drive out of central Fallbrook, all two-lane road and oak trees once you leave the main drag. The owner of a 2018 Leaf called me from her carport out there. She had one key, always meant to get a second, and that single fob had finally given up. The housing had cracked along the seam and the internal blade had snapped when she pulled it from her pocket. She went from zero working keys to two in about 40 minutes, right there in the carport.
She asked what the dealer would have said. I told her honestly: the dealer would have seen one key present, probably pushed toward an all-keys-lost procedure anyway since she couldn't demonstrate the broken fob working, and the appointment alone would have been a day's wait. She saved a good chunk and didn't have to get the car towed anywhere.
