2016 Nissan Leaf Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She was near Moonlight Beach in Encinitas when her purse got taken. Keys, wallet, phone, all of it. She borrowed a friend's phone, called the police, then eventually got a number to reach me.
Her 2016 Nissan Leaf was sitting in a valet lot with no keys at all. When her roommate called the dealer, they said they could order the part but it would arrive in three to five business days, the car would need a tow since it couldn't be moved, and they strongly suggested rekeying or at minimum clearing the key memory because the stolen fob could still open the doors and start the car. The total estimate was significant.
I got there that night.
All-keys-lost after a theft is a different job than adding a spare. The stolen fob has to be erased from the vehicle's memory completely, not just replaced. I connected my diagnostic equipment through the OBD port, accessed the immobilizer system, wiped the existing key registration, and programmed two new fobs from scratch. The charge port door button was tested on both. I cut the emergency insert blade so she had a physical backup. Both fobs were working before her roommate finished parking.
She drove home that night. The stolen fob is permanently dead to that car.
The dealer comparison came up only because her roommate mentioned the estimate. I'll just say she saved a good chunk, got it done the same night, and didn't need a tow.
