A pharmacy tech at a carport in El Cajon had exactly that story. Her only key to her 2021 Nissan Leaf cracked at the housing seam and the blade snapped when she pulled it from her pocket. The fob was in two pieces and the car wouldn't detect it.
I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the cracked fob since the chip was still intact inside the broken housing. That saved time because I didn't need a full all-keys-lost procedure. I decoded her door lock, cut two fresh blades, and built two new fobs. Her key uses FCC ID CWTWB1G0168, a 4-button Intelligent Key that I rebuilt into new shells with the cloned chip data. I showed her the chip from the cracked fob so she could see it was still good.
She went from zero working keys to two in about 40 minutes. Total was around $247. A full AKL without the broken pieces would have cost more, and the dealer wanted $427 either way. If you still have the broken pieces, bring them.
