2012 Toyota Matrix Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in Old Town National City, late on a weeknight. His 2012 Matrix was sitting in the driveway and he had one key left. That key had taken a hit, the blade was fine, but the fob housing had cracked along the seam and the buttons were barely responding. He had been living with it for a few weeks, pressing harder each time, until that night when it stopped locking the car at all. He was not locked out, the car still started, but he was done gambling with a key that was halfway gone.
When I got there he handed it to me and I could feel the play in the shell. The internal contact pad had shifted just enough that two of the four buttons were making inconsistent contact. The blade itself was intact and the transponder was reading fine, so the car-starting side of things was not in danger yet. But yet is the word.
I set him up with a replacement remote head key, cut the blade to match his ignition and door locks, and ran the programming on site through the OBD port. Tested every button, tested the start, cycled the locks a few times to confirm range. Start to finish, maybe 35 minutes in his driveway.
He mentioned he had called the dealer earlier in the week just to get a number. The quote he got back was enough that he put it off. When I told him what I charged, he was quiet for a second and then said he wished he had called three weeks ago.
