2014 Toyota Matrix
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2014 Toyota Matrix Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a Tuesday night, maybe 9 p.m., and I got a call from a guy standing in an empty office park out in Eucalyptus Hills. His only key was gone. Checked his pockets, the office, the sidewalk outside. Nothing. He had no idea where to start and was already thinking about calling a tow just to get the car somewhere with a light.

First thing I did was slow him down. Panicking at 9 p.m. in a dark parking lot doesn't help either of us. I walked him through finding the VIN on the base of the windshield, driver's side. He found it. Then I had him pull up his insurance app for the registration info. It was there.

That VIN told me everything I needed before I left my van. I knew the key type, had the right blank pulled, and had my programmer set up for the job. By the time I rolled into that parking lot in Lakeside, I was ready to work.

I cut the blade to his vehicle and programmed the transponder to the immobilizer, then synced the remote functions on the four-button fob. Done under the parking lot lights, which honestly is just a normal Tuesday for me.

He drove home that night. The dealer was closed and would have required a tow plus a multi-day wait. He got none of that. Just a working key and a short drive home.

The one thing that sped everything up: the VIN. Text it to me before I arrive and the job starts the second I step out of the van.
