2009 Toyota Venza
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Toyota Venza Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was working near the Spring Valley border of Lemon Grove when a guy flagged me down in a parking lot. Not a call, not a booking, just a guy who saw the van and figured he had nothing to lose.

He had a 2009 Toyota Venza and a fob that was acting up. The remote functions had been getting flaky for a few weeks, and that morning the locks stopped responding entirely. The key still turned, the car still started, but he was doing everything manually. His words were something like, "I know it probably just needs a battery, but I already tried that."

I asked him to show me the battery he used. He pulled out the old one from his pocket, a CR2025. I handed him a CR2016 without saying much and watched his face when I explained the difference. Same diameter, different thickness, and in this particular fob housing the thicker cell can tilt slightly and drop contact intermittently. The swap he had done himself never actually fixed anything because he used the wrong cell.

Seated the correct CR2016, cycled the locks, tested the range across the parking lot. Everything worked. He stood there for a second and said he had already called the dealer and was bracing himself for the bill.

I told him the battery swap was on me. He booked a spare key right there.

That spare took about forty minutes. Cut the blade to his vehicle, programmed the transponder and the remote functions on site, tested both keys before I closed the van. He drove off with a working daily key and a working spare for a fraction of what the dealer had quoted just to diagnose the original fob.
