2021 Toyota Venza
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2021 Toyota Venza Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy near the Encanto Border side of Lemon Grove. He had found me on YouTube a while back, watched a Toyota key video, and saved my number before he ever had a problem. That is my favorite kind of call. He already knew what to expect.

His 2021 Venza had been giving him a key-not-detected warning on the dash intermittently for about two weeks. Some mornings it started fine. Other mornings he was standing there pressing the start button and getting nothing. He had already tried the close-range fob-to-button trick and it worked once, which told him the fob was not fully dead but was on its way out.

I pulled up, checked the fob first. CR2450 inside was reading low voltage on my tester. Not zero, just low enough to cause exactly that kind of inconsistent behavior where sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Swapped the cell, reseated it clean, tested the contact terminals.

Then I walked the whole system. Touch sensors on both front door handles, the hatch release, every button on the fob, and three start cycles. Everything came back solid.

He asked if I thought the fob itself was damaged. Honestly, no. The Venza fob is reasonably well built and his had no cracking or water intrusion. The battery was just tired. Sometimes that is the whole story.

He had called the dealer before he called me. They quoted him a new fob plus programming and told him to bring it in. He saved a good chunk by calling me instead, and I came to him. Job was done in his driveway in Lemon Grove before he had to be anywhere.
