There is a laundromat in Downtown Fallbrook. I have been called to that parking lot more than once. This time it was a woman with a 2011 Venza that had been giving her trouble for about ten days.

That alone can cause intermittent range. I straightened the clip and reseated the battery, then connected my diagnostic tool to check what the vehicle's immobilizer had actually registered.
The enrolled key data confirmed the wrong transponder generation had been used. I programmed a new fob with the correct chip matched to her vehicle, enrolled it through the diagnostic port, and ran through every function: door handles, lock, unlock, and the start button, twice each.
She watched the whole thing. When it started clean the third time in a row she stopped watching the dash for bad news. The dealer comparison was an afterthought she brought up on her own. I just told her to call if anything changed.
