He landed after a late flight, walked to the airport economy lot in Poway, and his 2020 Volkswagen Jetta wouldn't respond to the fob because the CR2032 battery in the smart key was dead. His key was still learned to the car. The issue was the dead battery killing the remote signal and the push-to-start wake-up. His Transponder Key with FCC ID was back working after a CR2032 swap and a reprogram to clear the communication fault. I gave him a spare battery for his camera bag so he'd have a backup.
He made his shoot on time. Total was about $134. Dealer would have been $313 plus a tow and a two-day wait.
