A wine club member out at a vineyard near Ventura County Medical Center learned this the useful way. He was at a tasting event about 25 minutes outside town and his Acura key stopped working. The fob wouldn't unlock the doors and the emergency blade slot on the door handle was jammed with dirt. There was no dealer within 30 miles and no locksmith shop nearby.
He texted me his GPS pin. I drove out with everything needed for his TL already in the van. I used my ACDP to back up his immobilizer data before starting work, then cleaned the emergency blade slot, built and programmed a complete replacement fob, and tested every function on-site. His smart key, FCC ID , was a -button proximity fob that started his car on the first try.
His car started in that gravel lot, same spot it had been parked all afternoon. Total was around 169. A dealer would have charged 368 plus a tow from a location no flatbed could easily reach. He seemed pretty impressed it could all happen at a vineyard.
