Got a call from a guy over in Mission San Buenaventura in Ventura. He works on boats at the harbor, hands always busy, always carrying tools. His 2001 Acura TL had been starting rough for a while, intermittent cranks with no fire, then suddenly working on the second try. Classic immobilizer hiccup.
He found one of my YouTube videos before he ever needed me. Watched a Honda-platform key job, saw how the immobilizer handshake works with the T5 chip, and saved my number. When the key finally gave up on a Monday morning, he already knew what the job looked like.
I pulled up, checked his key. The blade was fine but the transponder signal was weak and inconsistent. The chip inside the plastic head was original, over 20 years old at that point. I cut a new HD106 blank on my mobile machine, cloned the T5 transponder using my VVDI Key Tool, and tested the start three times cold. Clean fire every time. Then I tested range on the separate keyless remote fob just to make sure that side was still healthy.
He told me he liked that the person in the video was the same person standing next to his car. No dispatcher, no mystery tech. That matters when someone is handing you their only key to a 23-year-old car they clearly take care of.
Whole thing took about 20 minutes, and the cost was a fraction of what the Acura dealer quoted him.
