A woman visiting Goleta called me from near Goleta Beach Park, panicked because she had locked her only key inside her 1995 Acura TL. She was staying at a rental nearby and had been on hold with the Acura dealer in Santa Barbara for twenty minutes before they told her the soonest appointment was two days out. Then they mentioned towing.
I got there in about forty minutes. The 1995 TL is a simple car when it comes to keys. No transponder, no immobilizer, no smart system. It is a pure mechanical key, Honda/Acura X type keyway, part number HD103 or the Ilco equivalent HD106. The key blank runs through my Lishi HU101 pick and decode tool to read the lock, then I cut a fresh blade on the code machine in my van.
I picked the driver door, read the wafers, and cut a new key on site. Tested it in the door, the ignition, and the trunk. Whole thing took maybe fifteen minutes including the walk back to the van.
She kept saying she thought it would be a bigger deal. It was not. No chip to clone, no OBD port session, no programming countdown. Just a clean cut on a blank and confirmation that every lock on the car turns.
She got a spare too. Smart move when you are traveling with one key.
