I got a call from a woman parked in her driveway off one of the quieter streets in Conejo Oaks. She'd had her 2013 TL for years, never made a spare. The fob had been flaky for a week, she said, sometimes the doors wouldn't respond, sometimes the start button just sat there. She figured it would sort itself out. It didn't. I built a new one on the hood, paired it through the diagnostic port, verified all four buttons, walked both door handles for touch response, and confirmed the start button. Then I showed her where the emergency blade slots into the door handle, because she genuinely had no idea that was there.
She made it to work. The dealer appointment she'd already scheduled, she canceled it.
