Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2008 Acura TL Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in East Ventura, I got a call from a guy who coaches little league at one of the youth fields nearby. His 2008 TL had been giving him grief for about a week. The remote would lock the doors fine in the morning, then do nothing by afternoon. He figured the fob battery was dying, swapped it himself, and the problem came back within three days.

When I got to him he was standing next to the car in the parking lot, still clicking the fob like maybe it would change its mind.

I popped the key apart on the hood of my van. The CR1616 he had put in was seated, but the positive contact had a slight outward bow. Not dramatic, just enough that under vibration the connection would drop. I straightened the contact, cleaned both faces, and reseated the battery.

Then I connected to the OBD port and ran through the immobilizer registration to confirm the key was properly enrolled. The 2008 TL requires the security countdown to complete before the new registration takes, so I let it run while we talked about the team's season.

After that came the part he did not expect. I walked away from the car and tested remote range. Tested it again from a different angle. Started the car three times back to back and let it sit between cycles. Checked every one of the four buttons individually. The whole thing took a few extra minutes but that is the part that catches problems before they strand someone.

He said the dealer had quoted him a wait of several days just to get an appointment. I was done in his parking lot in under an hour, for a fraction of what they wanted.
