2008 Acura TL Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over near Ventura Music Hall, a guy flagged me down while I was already finishing up another call. His 2008 TL was parked on the street and the key blade had snapped clean off inside the ignition.
He had the back half of the remote head key in his hand, buttons and all, just no blade. He said he felt it getting loose for a couple weeks and kept meaning to deal with it. Then today it finally gave.
I pulled the broken blade fragment out of the cylinder with extraction hooks. Took about two minutes. The ignition was fine, no damage to the wafers. I decoded the lock on the spot and cut a fresh blade for a new OUCG8D-439H-A shell, then moved the G-chip from his old board into the new housing so the immobilizer side stayed matched without needing a full reprogram. Wired the remote, seated a fresh CR1616, and synced the remote functions through the OBD port using the security countdown the Honda IMMO3 system requires.
Then came the part that matters. I tested every button. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Walked thirty feet away and tested again. Started the car three times back to back. Shut it off, waited, started it again. He was watching from the sidewalk the whole time.
He said he thought the ignition was ruined. It was just a broken key shell, a known weak point on these Honda and Acura remote head keys where the blade pivot wears over time.
