2007 Acura TL Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman in Downtown Ventura, parking lot off Main Street, standing next to her 2007 TL with a key that had already been "fixed" once.

She'd had a locksmith come out a couple weeks earlier after losing her original. The replacement worked fine for about a week. Then the remote got spotty. Then one evening it cranked but wouldn't catch. By the time she called me, the car had stranded her twice and she was starting to think something was wrong with the car itself.

I asked her to describe what the dash showed when it cranked and didn't start. She said there was a key-not-detected warning and the immobilizer indicator was flashing. That told me plenty before I even touched anything.

The previous key had the wrong transponder chip inside. Not wildly wrong, just close enough to pass the initial programming handshake but not close enough to hold up across multiple drive cycles when the immobilizer runs its deeper verification. I read the chip in her existing key with my programmer, confirmed the mismatch, and cut and programmed a new remote head key with the correct chip on site. While I had it open I swapped the CR1616, because the cell in the bad key was borderline anyway and there was no point leaving that variable in play.

Tested every button, ran it through a start cycle, locked and unlocked from across the lot. Solid.

She asked what the dealer would have charged. I told her a lot more, and they probably would have wanted the car towed in and kept overnight. She'd already wasted money on the first locksmith. This time it was done right, same afternoon, on the street.
