When a 2007 Acura TL key is done wrong, it doesn't just "kind of work." It fails. The engine might crank but not start. The remote might lock but not unlock. Or the key programs initially but the immobilizer rejects it after a drive cycle and you're stranded again.
A grad student at her apartment near Ventura Promenade had a key made by another locksmith for her TL that stopped working after about a week. I used my VVDI2 to read what chip was actually in her bad key, confirmed it was the wrong generation, and programmed a new key with the correct chip matched to her FCC ID OUCG8D-439H-A. Her fob also had a weak CR1616 battery making the intermittent detection worse, so I swapped that too.
The replacement I made has been working for months and cost her 185. Dealer would have charged 395. The difference between a key that works and a key that works for a week is the chip generation inside it.
