2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: I found a replacement fob online that matches the factory FCC ID on my 2017 Giulia. Can I just swap it in?

No. Matching the factory FCC ID just means it's the right fob shell for the vehicle. It still has to be enrolled to your specific car through the OBD port using diagnostic software that communicates with the immobilizer and the body control system. There's no button sequence or ignition trick that does this on the Giulia. The hardware has to be there, but the programming is what actually makes it work.

Q: How fast can you get to Downtown Fillmore?

Average arrival in the Downtown Fillmore area runs about 15 to 25 minutes from when you call. I dispatch to the closest available job, so there's no scheduling days out or waiting on a parts order. Call now, I head your way now.

Q: My 2017 Giulia shows a key warning on the dash but the fob buttons still work. What's going on?

This comes up more than you'd think on these cars. The remote functions and the immobilizer side of the key system operate through different channels. So a fob can still send a lock or unlock signal while the vehicle's security system isn't reading it properly for starting. It can mean the fob's enrollment has partially degraded, which happens sometimes after a dead battery event or if the car's battery was disconnected.

Q: I lost all keys to my 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. Is that an all-keys-lost situation and can it be done on site?

Yes and yes. All-keys-lost on a Giulia is a defined procedure, and it can absolutely be handled on site in Downtown Fillmore. The process involves accessing the vehicle's security system through the OBD port, clearing the existing key memory, and enrolling the new fobs fresh. Because the old keys get wiped from the system during this process, no one with a previously paired fob can start the car afterward.

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman drove up from Downtown Fillmore one afternoon after her Giulia had been sitting in a parking lot off Central Avenue for about two hours. She hadn't lost the key.

She had all her keys. The car just wasn't reading one of them anymore, and the second fob had been missing since she bought the car used. So she was down to one, it was acting up, and she wasn't going to risk being stranded.

She'd already called the dealer. They told her to bring it in, leave it, and expect a wait because they'd need to order the fob and schedule a programming appointment. She wasn't interested in any of that.

When I got there, first thing I did was pop the back of the fob and check the CR2032. It had some age on it and the voltage was marginal. Swapped it out, tested range from across the lot. Better, but the car still wasn't enrolling the fob cleanly. That told me the battery wasn't the whole story.

Connected to the OBD port, pulled up the vehicle's security and body control modules, and ran through the key enrollment procedure. The Giulia's electronic platform is particular about how that sequence runs. Took one full attempt, confirmed enrollment, tested every function on the fob. Then I cut and programmed a second key so she'd have a spare and not be back in this situation six months later.

She was back on the road in under an hour. The dealer estimate she'd mentioned was going to cost her a good chunk more and at least a day without her car. She paid, I left, and she didn't have to leave Downtown Fillmore.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What battery does the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia key fob use?▼

CR2032. Standard size, easy to find at any pharmacy or hardware store. Pop the back of the fob with a small flathead wrapped in a cloth so you don't scratch it, swap the cell, make sure it seats flat against both contacts. One thing to watch on these: a low battery doesn't always kill the fob outright.
