Village at Moorpark call came in around 8 PM. Guy's 2023 Giulia wouldn't detect his only key fob.
"Started this morning. Had to hold the fob against the start button to get it going." Classic dying battery symptom on these 434MHz systems. But when I got there and popped the KR5ALFA434 open, the CR2032 tested at 3.1 volts. Should've been fine.
The real issue: corrosion on the negative contact spring. Barely visible, just a light film, but enough to mess with the passive entry circuit that needs clean power. Cleaned it with contact cleaner, bent the spring for better pressure, fresh Panasonic CR2032.
Test time. All five buttons worked: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, remote start. Door handle touch sensors responded instantly. No more gymnastic moves with the fob against the start button.
These Giulias are picky about key fob voltage. The dealer solution would've been a whole new fob programmed through their DRBIII tool, probably a week wait for the part. Fixed it right there in his driveway for a fraction of that hassle.
