Over near Moorpark College in Moorpark, I got a Saturday morning call from a guy whose only Giulia smart key stopped working the night before. He tried a new CR2032. Nothing. Tried holding the fob against the steering column to start it in backup mode. Engine turned over, but the remote functions were completely dead. No lock, no unlock, no trunk.
He called the dealer Friday afternoon. They told him earliest appointment was the following Wednesday, and the replacement fob, part number 6EP44LXHAA, would need to be ordered. He said they quoted him a wait of seven to ten business days for the part alone.
I showed up at his apartment with the key already in stock. Opened his old fob on the hood so he could see the board. The CR2032 contacts looked fine, but there was a hairline crack in the case near the emergency key slot, and the 434 MHz antenna trace on the board had a small corrosion spot. That explained the dead remote with a working passive start.
Programmed the new KR5ALFA434 through the OBD port, cut the emergency insert blade, and walked the full test: all five buttons, both front door handle sensors, the trunk button on the liftgate, and push-button start from driver and passenger seat positions. Whole thing took about 35 minutes.
He kept the old fob. I told him it was a paperweight now since the BCM erased it during registration. He just nodded and put it in a drawer. Weekend job, same as any weekday.
