I got a call from a guy up in Mission Canyon on a Tuesday morning. He had parked his 2019 Stelvio in the driveway the night before, no issues, and came out to leave for work and got a key-not-detected warning every time he approached the car. The CR2032 read low on the tester even though the car would still start with it held close. Swapped the battery, cleaned the contacts, reseated everything. That bought him back his passive entry. Door handles responding again, dash warning gone.
He stood there watching and asked if that was really it. I told him yeah, sometimes it is. Not every call on a smart key is a full replacement job. The fob hardware on these is solid. It was just starving for voltage.
If the battery swap had not fixed it, I had the programming equipment with me to register a fresh fob on the spot. That would have been a longer job but still done in the driveway, same day, for a fraction of what the dealer route would have cost him in both money and time.
