Do you need to tow your 2010 Audi A6 to the dealer? Probably not. For most Audi models from the mid-2000s flip keys through the mid-2010s smart keys, I handle all-keys-lost right at the car. No tow. No dealer. No leaving the car somewhere for days.
A graveyard shift pharmacist at her condo complex in the Fremont Square Shopping Center neighborhood in Oxnard had her only key die at home around 11pm. Her A6 was parked in the garage with a smart key system and no fob that the car would detect. She assumed a tow was the only path. She started looking up costs and dealer hours and realized she would be without a car for most of the week.
I told her to stay home. I connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port and ran the Audi smart key AKL procedure. The Smart Pro walks through the security sequence, reads the PIN, clears old key data, and learns new fobs to the immobilizer. Her remote flip key, FCC ID NBG009272T, was a 4-button smart key with comfort access. I programmed it in her condo garage at 11pm.
Her total was 264. The dealer would have been 492 plus the tow. There are some newer Audi platforms with encrypted BCM2 modules where AKL requires bench work and takes longer. And a small number of the latest models are still dealer-only. But for the majority of Audis on the road, I do all-keys-lost on-site regularly.
