1997 Audi A6 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman in the Wilson area of Oxnard on a Sunday afternoon. Her 1997 Audi A6 had been sitting in her driveway since the night before. The remote had stopped working, and she was worried the car itself would not start.
She had already swapped the battery before she called me. Fresh CR2032, seated correctly. Remote still dead. She figured it was a programming issue and assumed she was looking at a dealer visit first thing Monday, which meant no car for work that night.
I drove out and took a look. The battery swap was done right, but when I opened the fob housing I could see the contact for the transponder board had a slight green tinge on one of the terminals. Corrosion that builds up slowly, sometimes from a battery that leaked at some point in the past. Cleaned the contacts, reseated the board, and closed it back up. Remote started responding.
Then I checked the transponder side at the OBD port to confirm the chip was still reading correctly and the car was not throwing any immobilizer faults. It was clean. Car started, remote locked and unlocked from across the driveway, all four buttons doing what they should.
She had been mentally budgeting for a tow, a new key, and dealer programming fees. None of that ended up being necessary. Sometimes the fix is a lot smaller than the worry.
