I got a call at just past six in the morning from a catering company owner parked at a commercial kitchen in the Via Marina area of Oxnard. She had a wedding reception to run in under four hours. Her A6 would not start, the fob was unresponsive, and when she tried the emergency blade in the door cylinder, it barely moved. Old dried lubricant in the cylinder, basically locked from the inside out. Her van was loaded. Everything was sitting still.

The door cylinder was the first problem. A stiff lock barrel on these cars is more common than people expect, especially if the emergency blade never gets used and the cylinder dries out over years. I worked through it carefully without forcing anything, got the door open, and connected through the OBD port to read what the car was actually seeing.
The fob battery was dead. Not low. Dead. And the comfort access system had thrown a fault that needed to be cleared before the car would respond normally again. Once I cleared it and put a fresh CR2032 in the fob with the contacts cleaned and seated correctly, I ran through all four buttons and tested the door handle wake-up on both front doors.
She was loaded and pulling out of the lot by ten to seven. The dealer would have meant a tow, a service appointment that probably wasn't going to happen same-day, and a catering job that simply would not have gotten done.
