I got a call one Sunday from a woman in Victoria Estates, Oxnard. She was a flight attendant on a layover, had a couple of hours before she needed to be anywhere, and she was stranded.

She had already been burned once. A different locksmith had come out, charged her for the job, and left. The car would crank for about two seconds and then die. I connected through the OBD port with my programmer, cleared out the incomplete key data from the previous attempt, re-read the security credentials from the immobilizer, and ran a clean registration with the correct timing. Then I walked through all four buttons on the fob, tested the touch-unlock on both front handles, and did two full cold starts with the engine fully up to idle before I called it done.

The car ran. All four buttons worked. No two-second cutoff.

She was back at the airport with time to spare. The dealer came up in conversation only because she asked what they would have quoted. I told her way less, and left it at that.
