2005 Audi A6 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A rideshare driver flagged me down near Paseo Nuevo Shopping Center in Santa Barbara. His 2005 Audi A6, parked along the curb, had a key blade snapped off inside the driver door lock. The HU66 blade broke clean at the shoulder. He had been running a worn copy for years and the tip finally gave out against sticky wafers inside the cylinder.
He told me another locksmith said the whole lock needed to be drilled out. New cylinder, new key, a tow to a shop.
I started with the broken flip key shell. The Megamos 48 chip inside was still intact, so I read the transponder data with my VVDI2 to preserve it. Then I slid my HU66 Lishi tool into the door lock keyway alongside the stuck fragment. The Lishi fits the VAG double-track profile and can work around a broken piece without scratching the internal wafer surfaces. Fragment came out in one pass.
With the lock clear, I decoded each wafer position for the exact cut depths, then cut a fresh HU66 blade on site. Rebuilt his 4-button flip key, part number 4D0837231P, into a new shell with the original Megamos chip transplanted in and a fresh CR2032.
No drilling. No new cylinder. No tow. He was back on the road in about 40 minutes, and it cost him a fraction of what the other guy quoted for the destructive route.
