2011 Audi A6 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the water on the South Bank side of Oxnard when the call came in. Owner of a 2011 Audi A6, flip key so worn the blade refused to stay locked in the extended position. She was pinching it shut between two fingers every time she needed to turn the ignition. Had been doing it for weeks.
The dealer gave her a number for a full replacement key, cut and programmed from scratch. She said the quote made her sit in the parking lot for a few minutes before she drove away without scheduling anything.
When I got there I popped the housing open on the hood of my van. The remote board looked fine. No corrosion, no cracked solder points. The transponder chip was seated properly. Everything electronic inside that key was in perfectly good shape. The only problem was the plastic shell had cracked at the pivot and the retaining tab was gone, so the blade had nothing to hold it.
I moved the board and chip into a new flip shell, cut a fresh blade to match the vehicle, and verified the remote was responding correctly before I handed it back. Lock, unlock, and the third button all working. Blade clicks in and out clean, locks firm in both positions.
She kept clicking it on the way to her car like she expected it to fall apart again. It did not.
The dealer was not wrong that a new key could fix it. They just skipped the part where the key she already had was still perfectly good on the inside.
