Your 2017 Cadillac CTS uses a smart key with 5 buttons on the face, a CR2032 battery inside powering the proximity signal, and an emergency blade that slides out of the housing for manual door entry when the battery dies. Inside is a transponder chip that the car's body control module checks every time you press the start button.
A customer at home near Peninsula Park had a CTS with a worn smart key. The chrome trim ring was cracked, the rubber button pad was peeling, and the emergency blade slot had gotten loose from daily use. She paid about 298. The dealer wanted 553 for a whole new fob when she only needed a shell swap and fresh buttons. The expensive electronics inside were perfectly fine.
