Out in Dos Vientos, the houses sit tucked back in these quiet cul-de-sacs off Borchard Road. I pulled up to one and a guy met me in the driveway, one key in his hand, looking like he had already done the math on what losing it would cost him.
He had called the Cadillac dealer first. The service advisor quoted him a number that made him pause, told him to bring the car in, and that was the end of that conversation. He found me, figured the mobile route was worth a try, and here we were.
His 2015 CTS had one working smart fob. He just wanted a second one before something went sideways on a morning he could not afford. Reasonable request.
I decoded the door lock cylinder right there in the driveway, reading the cut positions off the lock so I could produce a correct emergency blade without needing the original key. Cut the blade, verified the fit, then connected to the OBD port and ran the fob registration through my GM equipment. The whole process took just under forty minutes.
He tested the touch unlock on both door handles, the start button, and each button on the new fob. Everything worked. He asked if the old fob would still function. It does. Both keys in the system, both active.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, never left his driveway, and still had time to get his kids to school.
