A guy out at Hollywood Beach in Oxnard picked up a 2016 CTS from an estate sale earlier this year. Clean car, low miles, clearly well looked after. But the family handed him exactly one fob and told him that was everything they had.
He was fine with one key until he started thinking about what happens if he loses it on the beach or it takes a wave. All-keys-lost on a Cadillac proximity system is a longer, more involved job than a simple spare. He called the dealer first. They quoted him a number he didn't expect for a second fob with programming, plus they told him to bring the car in and plan to leave it.

I connected through the OBD port, pulled the vehicle data, and added the new fob to the system on site. Cut the emergency insert blade on my portable machine, seated it back in the new fob, tested the passive door-handle unlock on both fronts, tested the start, walked every button.
The whole visit was maybe forty minutes. He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote, and now he has a spare sitting in his place at Hollywood Beach instead of sweating it every time he walks near the water.
