Out near Silverstrand Beach in Oxnard, a guy had just picked up a 2016 Cadillac CTS from an estate sale. Clean car, well maintained, but it came with one key. The family handing it over gave him a single HYQ2AB fob with a worn shell and told him good luck finding a spare.

I met him at the car, read the transponder data from his working fob using OBD, and programmed a fresh HYQ2AB through the diagnostic port. The 2016 CTS uses the Hitag Pro AES protocol on GM's newer immobilizer platform, so the add-a-key procedure is clean as long as one working key is present. Cut the HU100 blade on my Condor, synced the remote, tested all five buttons plus the passive entry on both front doors and the trunk.
He stood there holding both fobs like he was weighing them. Then he just said, "That's it?"
