Got a call from the North Ranch neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. A woman had one working smart key left for her 2013 CTS and it had been acting up for weeks. Short range, sometimes "No Remote Detected" on the dash, sometimes fine. She was nursing it along and knew she was one dead battery away from being stuck.

The body control module on these second-gen CTS cars runs the PK3+ security protocol, so there is a timed relearn countdown the system has to walk through. You just wait it out.
While the countdown ran, I swapped her old fob's CR2032 and cleaned the battery contacts. One of them had a slight green tint. Corrosion. That was her ghost problem.
After programming finished, I tested both fobs. Every button, lock, unlock, trunk, remote start, push-to-start three times, and range from across the driveway. Both keys, clean response. She went back to work with two working fobs and no more guessing which day the last one would quit on her.
