2014 Cadillac CTS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy near the Dos Vientos neighborhood in Thousand Oaks had been fighting his 2014 Cadillac CTS for weeks. Every time he parked, the key would not come out of the ignition. He had a whole routine: jiggle the shifter into park again, turn the steering wheel, pull firm and slow. Sometimes it took three or four tries.
He was a golfer. Told me he dreaded pulling into the lot because he never knew how long it would take to get the key free and get on with his day.
The dealer wanted a full ignition cylinder replacement, new keys, and a complete reprogram. He called me for a second opinion before committing to all that.
I drove out and checked the cylinder and the park interlock mechanism. The wafers inside the lock were worn down, and the interlock sensor on the shift cable side was sluggish, not releasing cleanly when the column registered Park. Before touching anything mechanical, I used my ACDP to back up the body control module data on the B-CAN network. Then I decoded the existing lock, swapped the worn wafers, and cleaned and adjusted the interlock. His HYQ2AB synced back through OBD without any issues.
I set the old wafers on his hood so he could see the flat spots. He just nodded and said he wished he had called sooner.
He kept his original smart key, his original cylinder housing, and walked away spending a fraction of what the dealer quoted for parts he never needed.
