A guy visiting his daughter for Thanksgiving near the Newbury Park area called me about his 2010 Cadillac CTS. He had one working smart key and wanted a spare, but not a drawer spare. He wanted to carry it daily and trust it like the original.
Fair question. And it deserves an honest answer instead of a sales pitch.
I showed him both options on the hood of his car. OEM fob, Cadillac crest on the back, GM part number 25943676. Then the aftermarket blank I carry, same five-button layout, same M3N5WY7777A circuit board, same ID46 transponder spec for his BCM. The HU100 blade blank is the same profile either way. I cut it to his door on site.
Programming was the standard GM proximity add-key procedure: existing fob in the console slot, cycle the Start/Stop, then register the new one within the timed window. BCM accepted it first pass. Walked all four doors checking passive entry range, tested the remote start button from across his daughter's driveway, and ran the push-button start three times cold.
The only visible difference between his new key and the original is the missing crest logo on the housing. He pocketed it and said he'd probably lose track of which was which by Monday.
He paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted him. And he never left the driveway.
