There's a tailor shop off one of the main drags in Thousand Oaks, out near the Lynn Ranch side of town. A customer there had a 2012 CTS that had been giving her intermittent grief for about three weeks. The car would start fine in the morning, but by mid-afternoon the push-to-start would just sit there. No crank, no response. Then it would work again an hour later. The other locksmith had programmed a replacement fob. It held for about a week, then the same problem came back. I programmed a new fob using the correct chip matched to this vehicle, seated a fresh CR2032 the right way, and confirmed all five buttons were reading correctly. Then I let her drive it around the block twice before I packed up, because that's the only way to know it held.
She saved a good chunk compared to where the dealer quote was heading, and she didn't have to tow the car anywhere.
