Got a call from someone out near Point Mugu State Park in Oxnard. She'd been hiking the Sycamore Canyon trail and came back to find her 2019 Cadillac CTS sitting there doing nothing. Fob wouldn't unlock the doors. No chirp, no lights, no response at all.
She'd already tried holding the fob against the start button, which she found on some forum. Smart move, but it only helps if you can get inside first. She was locked out with her only key.

I got the door open, then plugged my IM608 II into the OBD-II port and pulled up the body control module, GM part 13522788 on the third-gen CTS platform. Ran the smart key learn procedure through the BCM, programmed a new HYQ2AB fob, and cut the HU100 emergency insert blade right on the tailgate. Tested all five buttons, tested passive entry on both front doors and the trunk, and confirmed start.
The whole thing ran about 35 minutes. She was back on the PCH before the parking lot even got busy. A dealer would have meant a tow out of a state park, a multi-day wait, and a bill that would have stung a lot worse than mine.
