2009 Cadillac CTS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over near Ventura Music Hall, a CTS owner flagged me down on a referral. He had already paid another locksmith for a replacement smart key on his 2009 Cadillac CTS. The engine would crank for about two seconds, then the immobilizer killed fuel and it died. Every single time. The other guy told him the body control module was fried and left.
The BCM was fine.
What happened was the previous tech hadn't completed GM's full proximity key learning procedure. On the second-gen CTS, the theft deterrent relearn through the BCM has a timed security access cycle. If you skip a step, lose power, or pull the tool early, the key data writes temporarily but never commits to permanent memory in the BCM. The car sees a half-registered fob and shuts down fuel delivery as a theft response.
I used my Lishi HU100 to verify his blade cut was correct, then plugged in through OBD-II. Cleared the failed partial key data, ran a clean security access with the full timer, and wrote the M3N5WY7777A to permanent memory. Three consecutive start cycles, clean ignition every time, no fuel cutoff. I showed him the confirmation screen on my IM608 proving his fob was permanently stored in the BCM.
He had already paid the first locksmith too, and I couldn't fix that part. But I could make sure the key actually worked this time, on site, for way less than the dealer route.
