Met a GV60 owner at the Ventura Road shopping corridor who thought her smart key was possessed. Started with random "Key Not Detected" warnings, then the charge port wouldn't open with the fob button.
She'd already been to Genesis. They ran diagnostics, found nothing, suggested a new key for way more than seemed reasonable. But here's what they missed: the CR2450 wasn't dying uniformly. It had enough juice for passive entry but couldn't push the signal for active commands past 10 feet.
I popped the TQ8-FOB-4F53U open right there in the parking lot. Sure enough, CR2450 showing 2.8V on my meter. Just below the 2.9V threshold where these 8-button fobs get selective about which features work. Fresh Panasonic CR2450, cleaned the contacts, tested all eight buttons including that finicky charge port release.
While I had it open, showed her the emergency key slot hidden behind the driver door handle trim. Genesis doesn't always mention that during delivery. Cut her a spare HY22 blade too, since she only had the one key.
Twenty minutes total. She kept testing the charge port button from different distances, watching it work every time. Sometimes the fix really is that simple.
