I got a call from a woman in Marina West, Oxnard, on a Tuesday morning. She had a 2023 Genesis GV60 and a cracked fob housing. The seam along the side had split, probably from being dropped, and the buttons were soft and inconsistent because the housing was no longer holding the internals tight against the button pads. I transferred the circuit board and battery contact assembly out of the cracked housing into a replacement shell, reseated everything properly, and tested each of the eight buttons for click feel and wireless response. Then I decoded the emergency blade from her existing key and cut a fresh one so she would have a clean spare and a rebuilt primary.
The dealer had quoted her a full replacement. What she actually needed was a housing swap and a spare blade. The electronics inside her original fob were working perfectly the whole time.
She ended up leaving that job with two working keys instead of one, for a fraction of what the dealer had quoted her for a single replacement.
