The TOY40-style ignition on Accent, Elantra, Sonata, Tucson, and Santa Fe from the mid-2000s through about 2010 wears down after years of daily use. The wafers loosen, the worn key catches, and the owner starts forcing it every morning until it either jams solid or the blade snaps.

A customer at Planet Fitness in Ventura had been fighting his 2025 Hyundai Elantra ignition for three weeks.
