2018 Hyundai Elantra Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over at The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks, a woman flagged me down in the parking structure near Nordstrom. Her only smart key to her 2018 Elantra had cracked along the seam weeks ago, and she had been nursing it. That day the emergency blade snapped off inside the driver door lock. Fob shell in one hand, blade stuck in the cylinder. Zero working keys.
She was calm about it. That quiet kind of frustrated where you just stop talking for a second.
I pulled the blade fragment out of the lock, then opened the cracked fob on the hood so she could see what we were working with. The PCB, part number 95440-G3000 on the housing, was fine. The Hitag3 transponder chip was still seated and reading clean through my VVDI2. That meant I could skip a full all-keys-lost reset on the immobilizer, which would have added time and cost.
Decoded the door lock, cut two fresh emergency blades, and transplanted the original board into a new aftermarket shell with a good CR2032. Tested proximity unlock on both front doors, trunk release, remote start inhibit, and the push-button ignition.
She went from zero keys to two in about 40 minutes. The whole job ran a fraction of what the dealer quoted her over the phone. If your fob is cracked but the board inside is intact, bring the pieces. That chip is almost always salvageable, and it keeps the job faster and cheaper.
