When one or both handles stop responding to touch while the buttons still work, the usual suspects are the door handle capacitive sensor, the antenna in that door, or a wiring issue on that side. It can also show up after a door panel has been removed for an unrelated repair and something wasn't reconnected fully.

If both handles quit at the same time, that points more toward a system-level setting or a fob that's been partially de-enrolled. But an isolated single-handle issue is almost always on the vehicle side, not the key side.
