2010 Hyundai Elantra Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Dos Vientos neighborhood in Thousand Oaks, a guy's key snapped clean in the ignition of his 2010 Elantra. Half the blade wedged inside the cylinder, the other half between his thumb and finger. He was on the shoulder just off the main road, engine off, nowhere to go.
He had already called another locksmith. That shop quoted a full ignition cylinder replacement over the phone. New housing, new keys, a tow if he wanted it done at their shop. He hung up and tried me.
I got there and used my HY14 Lishi tool to slide into the keyway alongside the broken fragment. Pulled it out clean without touching a single wafer surface inside. Once the piece was free, I decoded the lock right there from the wafer positions, cut a fresh HY14 blade on my mobile machine, and programmed the ID46 transponder through the OBD port using pin code pulled from the immobilizer ECU.
His remote still worked. The fob shell was fine. He just needed a new blade and a fresh chip married to the car.
No drilling. No cylinder swap. No ignition assembly replacement. His original lock accepted the new key exactly as before, wafer for wafer. He sat in the driver seat, started it twice, cycled the steering lock, and just nodded.
The other locksmith's full-replacement quote would have been a lot more than what I charged.
