Saturday afternoon out near the Montalvo neighborhood in Ventura, a guy was waiting for me in a gravel lot next to a cricket pitch. His 2020 F-Pace was sitting there locked, no working key, and he had a game to get back to.
I verified his ID and registration, then pulled out my HU101 Lishi to decode the driver door lock and cut the emergency blade. That blade slot hides behind a small removable cap on the driver handle, which half of F-Pace owners have never even noticed.
Connected to OBD, read the KVM module, computed the security codes. Wrote the Hitag Pro ID49 data to a blank smart fob and registered it. The whole security handshake on these JLR systems has a timed countdown built in, so there is a stretch where you just wait and watch the progress bar crawl.
Then testing. I walked across the parking lot with the KOBJXF18A pressing every button from about 30 feet out. Lock, unlock, trunk release, panic, remote start. Walked back and did three clean push-to-start cycles. Checked keyless-go by keeping the fob in my pocket and pulling the door handle.
He was standing at the boundary rope watching. When I told him I was done, he said he expected me to hand over the fob and leave. The testing is the part most locksmiths skip. It is also the part that tells you the job actually worked.
Took about 40 minutes total. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, and he never left the pitch.
